Lantanas aromatic flower clusters create a dramatic mounding habit with golden-yellow flowers April through frost. Great for flowerbeds, containers, and as ground cover - especially on banks for erosion control. Attracts many butterflies, fragrant foliage, requires no dead-heading.
This is one of those maverick plants that actually does best when it gets so hot and miserable outside that all but the most dedicated gardeners call a two month hiatus to await more hospitable conditions.
Native to tropical regions of the Americas, Lantana New Gold was the 1995 Georgia Gold Medal Plant. Moderate to fast growth rate, salt tolerant, deer tend to avoid. Lantana does best in full sun and love heat, they are perennial in light winters with heavy mulch. No work is required, except for the occasional watering during extreme droughts. Lantana berries are edible when ripe (dark blue). Mature height 9-12", spreads 12-24", spacing 12-24".
