Showy purple flowers cover dark green foliage from an exceptionally long time (late spring through autumn). Often used as a border plant in an evergreen planting, as a group planting in a flower bed and as a ground cover at the base of taller flowers.

Particularly striking when trailing down the sides of raised beds or over the edges of elevated planters. The dense flower spikes bloom heavily in late spring, then sporadically until fall. The fragrant bright purple flowers are considerably larger than most Verbena - five-parted and trumpet-shaped, to 5/8" across.

The foliage creeps and covers moderately fast, the many branched stems lie along the ground and root as they go. It is ideal for any dry, neglected garden - low-maintenance and relatively drought-tolerant once established (may require some water during an extended dry spell in summer). Tolerant of heat, humidity, and some salt. Deer avoid it and butterflies love it!
