Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce'
{24 Pots - 3 1/2 in.}

(AKA Spruce-leaved stonecrop, Spruce stonecrop)

This semi-evergreen mat-forming perennial plant spreads indefinitely with bright yellow flowers early to late summer that form clusters 1 to 1 1/2" wide.

Bluish-green (spruce colored) linear, 1/2" fleshy needle-like foliage forms a whorl around the stem and is more dense than the species reflexum. If you want a sedum ground cover with dense blue-green foliage year around (evergreen in zones 5-9, semi-evergreen in zones 3-4), then this is the one for you.

Moderately salt tolerant, mature height 4-6", spacing 8-12".

General info - Sedum:
Sedum is one of the most popular perennials grown in American gardens because it is very easy to grow and hardy in most areas of the country. Perhaps the hardiest and lowest maintenance groundcover available, they thrive in a wide variety of situations with no care. Because of its thick, succulent leaves which can store water, sedums define drought tolerance - never wilting in the heat.

Sedums are spectacular foliage plants, with leaves of many different sizes, shapes and colors. Both foliage and blooms evolve in color during the season: leaves start out green and flush with lavender, russet, copper, etc., over time; the colors of the flowers tend to deepen or soften as they age. Vibrant flower clusters bloom longer and later than most groundcovers, often until frost.

Often used as accents, on roofs, in rock gardens, for edging and covering large areas. Taller varieties make excellent cut flowers, lasting weeks. Some varieties grow in a mat-like fashion, while others are best used as an upright ornamental specimen.

All sedums have thick, fleshy, succulent-like leaves and divide well. The seed heads of the taller varieties provide excellent winter interest and food for birds. Sedum's tolerance of cold makes it popular in northern zones. They are moderately salt tolerant, generally ignored by deer and rabbits, and attractive to butterflies. Sedums prefer well drained soil but will adapt to moist conditions. They spread moderately fast but not aggressively.
