Dryopteris ludoviciana
{24 Pots - 3 1/2 in.}
(AKA Southern Shield Fern, Florida Shield Fern, Southern Wood Fern, Aspidium ludovicianum, Dryopteris floridana, Nephrodium floridanum)The tall upright growth habit and shiny/leathery dark green fronds makes a striking specimen. The frond is 30-48" tall and 12" wide.
It is deciduous in cooler areas (evergreen in warmer areas), dying back in the winter and returning each spring.
Will tolerate a great deal of drought but will perform best with moisture at its roots in loose, rich soil and protection from direct sun. Creeping, branching, forming clumps. Slow to moderate growth rate. Mature height 30-48".

Dryopteris ludoviciana (the Latinized version of the word Louisiana) is native (in swamps and wet woods) to southern United States from Florida west to Texas and as far north as Kentucky and North Carolina.
