Ophiopogon japonicus
{50 Bare Root plants}
AKA Japonica, Mondo Grass, Monkey Grass, Dwarf Lilyturf, Japanese Snake’s Beard, KyotoEvergreen grasslike clumps or mounds with rich dark green 1/8" leaf blades. Spreads by underground stolons. Insignificant light lilac to white fowers in summer, bright blue glove-shaped berries in fall. Moderate growth rate. Likes fertile, well drained soil, but adapts well. Mature height 6" - 10", spacing 4" - 8".

Mondo grass is an excellent ground cover for shady areas, and the dense mat of roots holds the ground well where runoff is a problem. It is widely used as a border around beds, and is good for edging walkways and defining beds. Dwarf varieties are excellent as a groundcover around shady pools or garden statues: its height will not compete with the feature, dark green will contrast better than a bright green grass, and it will require no mowing. It is also used as an evergreen in planters, mixed with seasonal annuals for color.
