Carex oshimensis 'Evergold'
{24 Pots - 3 1/2 in.}

(AKA C. hachijoensis 'Evergold', C. morrowii 'Aurea-variegata' or ‘Aureovariegata’, Golden Japanese Variegated Sedge, Evergreen Striped Weeping Sedge, Oshima kan suge, Rush)

Fountains of weeping arched narrow leaves with broad cream stripes adorn this unique ornamental clump-forming grass. Grown for its strikingly bold and eye-catching foliage, it is one of the most graceful of the variegated sedges.

Often used as a bold accent groundcover, for borders and mass plantings, in containers, or as a groundcover in shade and rock gardens. Carex can be planted along banks of ponds, incorporated into perennial gardens, grouped together, and utilized as a ground cover along walkways, paths or on steep banks. An excellent alternative to ivy and Pachysandra. Small, cream to brown, bottlebrush-like flowers are produced in late spring but are rather insignificant to the plant's ornamental value.

'Evergold' is stunning spilling over into a path ... and as an architectural feature in a container or window box. It is long lasting and easy to grow! This is one of the most beautiful sedges available. Its dramatic weeping habit lends itself to a number of landscape settings - as a border, near a water feature, or used as an eye-catching mass.

'Evergold' looks its best when the foliage is cut back in late winter or early spring before new growth occurs. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system so it will handle moderate drought conditions. This Carex tolerates full sun in northern and central zones. In northern zones it tend to languish in full shade, where it does best when sited out of the way of winter winds and provided with some protection such as snow or straw. Not recommended for full sun in southern zones.

Height 10-16 inches, spread 12-18 inches, spacing 12-15 inches. Tolerances: deer, mild drought, moisture, poor soil, slopes.

Part sun Shade
