Review of Dwarf Japanese Juniper {3 1/2 in. Pots min 25}

100 of the 125 plants we ordered have died less than 60 days later!

I'm writing this an an update to my original review. We placed two different orders for these plants as the original 100 was not enough to fill the hillside- total order was 125 plants. We planted the first 100 plants the end of May and the second 25 plants the end of June. Presently we have about 25 that are still living/100 that have died. I have had extensive correspondence with customer service about the issue as we did follow the guidelines for receiving, unpacking, and planting on our hillside. All tabs on the website, that I reviewed extensively prior to ordering, indicated that this plant would grow well on hillsides, was drought tolerant, and could grow in sandy/rocky soil conditions in temperatures that fit our range. I have been told that the reason the plants did not survive is because they did not receive adequate water and that they have to be watered at least 1" per week, possibly more on hillsides if the water is not being absorbed, and that berms should be made around the plants to help absorb water. We have received significant rainfall at our location this year since planting (more than usual) so that water requirements should have been met/exceeded.

My problem with the website is that no where in the general information/tabs on the landing page does it list the water requirement, creating a "berm", and that the first year they will not be drought tolerant..even though we have not had drought conditions this year. It was even suggested that I should have "googled" hillside plant care to obtain additional information over what is provided via links you have to go layers deep to get on the website.

I am hopeful this review will give others pause to fully research ordering of any plants for hillsides until one is sure they can accommodate all requirements and even then, as in our case, you may not have success and WILL NOT be offered a refund if your plants do not survive. Less than 60 days after ordering 100 of the 125 plants are dead and Classy Groundcovers has offered to send us a water meter to put in the ground that cost $10- we paid over $597 for the first 100 plants we ordered from this site. Please beware and consider buying locally before ordering anything from a company that does not guarantee their plants beyond shipment.
06/01/2019 Update Customer service was excellent in terms of scheduling arrival to our secondary home. Plants arrived healthy and on-time. Great experience!

I am sorry that your plants died. As explained in the product description (mouse over the word "drought"), drought tolerance requires plants to be established and you did not give them adequate water to grow roots and become established before subjecting them to drought. That is why we explain in the planting instructions that you need to water them well the first season, at least an inch of water per week. In your case, you had a slope and much of your rain ran off before soaking into the soil. When you saw them start to turn brown it was a sign that they were not getting enough water. We offered you a moisture meter so you could see that the roots were indeed not getting enough water. It is not reasonable to expect us to refund you for plants that did not get enough water to survive.
