High hopes for naturalized ferns

My order of bare root hay-scented ferns arrived in two days as advertised. Classy Groundcovers shipped 12 plants instead of the 10 ordered, which I appreciated given the expected 25% mortality rate. Each plant was a rhizome about 8 inches long with fibrous roots attached. Most had one or more tiny green nubs that I assume will become stems. They arrived packed in moist sphagnum moss and seem to be in good condition. I planted them the next day, horizontally and 1 inch deep as directed. I have high hopes for the spring!
