Spreading after 2 years

Beautiful healthy rhizomes delivered. Sprouted the first year and 2nd year a bit larger. Now on the third year I am noticing lateral spreading and the plants are giving much more visual impact from afar. I love them! A few died; ones I planted in an area particularly susceptible to deer; I think they were eaten. Deer aren't supposed to like ferns, but I have found they will still nibble on lots of things that are supposed to be "deerproof".
