Deutzia is a genus of deciduous shrubs known for spring to early summer flowers carried on arching, often slender stems. The leaves are opposite, usually toothed, and sometimes rough to the touch, forming a simple green background for the floral display. Flowers are typically white or pink, starry to bell-shaped, and borne in clusters that can cover the stems with a fresh, bridal brightness. Compact forms make neat mounds, while larger species have a looser, fountain-like habit.
