Sedum (Stonecrop)
Offering a wide array of foliage heights, shapes, sizes and color beginning green and shifting to lavender, russet, copper or deep red, Sedum is undoubtedly one of the hardiest, low-maintenance groundcovers available.
With thick, succulent leaves that store water, it will thrive in a wide variety of situations including drought, cold, deer, rabbits, and even moderate salt with little to no care. Gardeners and butterflies love the variety of blossoms that evolve in color from golden to red or mauve to burgundy and bloom longer (often until frost) and later than most groundcovers.
The taller varieties, such as Autumn Joy, make splendid specimen plantings and lovely cut flowers that last for weeks. Lower lying varieties are perfect mats of luscious color and are works of art when left to creep over window boxes or amongst rock gardens.
Other uses are between stepping stones, edging and border applications and even large, empty slopes. Every garden needs at least one variety of Sedum, but we have a feeling once you begin to explore our selections, you'll find yourself quickly addicted to this versatile and vibrant plant.
