Potted Plants

Potted plants are more mature than bare root plants; they will have larger root systems and will develop into mature plants faster. Some plants are only offered in one or two sizes.

3 1/2 inch pots are our most popular seller. They provide plants with good-size foliage (equivalent to a quart) in a pot containing about a pint of soil.

2 1/2 inch pots are many months less mature than our 3 1/2 pots. They are a good choice when you want to reduce your cost and can wait longer for the plants to reach mature size. A general approximation would be that the 3 1/2 inch pots contain twice the root system and foliage as the 2 1/2 inch pots. For example, ivies and vincas will tend to have twice as many runners (perhaps a bit longer, too).

Given that the plants are continually growing during crop cycles, and the variations in times when orders are placed, we cannot give you precise size specifications. However, keeping in mind the variations depending on timing of orders during crop cycles, here are some average size estimations:

  • ivies in 2 1/2 inch pots generally have 1-2 runners about 4-5 inches long
  • ivies in 3 1/2 inch pots generally have 3-4 runners about 4-6 inches long (and a more developed root system)
  • Vincas in 2 1/2 inch pots generally have 2-3 runners about 4 inches long
  • Vincas in 3 1/2 inch pots generally have 4-6 runners about 4 inches long (and a more developed root system)
If you are, for example, planning centerpieces for a special event, and require a precise size description, please inquire.
