Penstemon × 'Dark Towers' (Beardtongue 'Dark Towers') is a standout perennial for adding deep, moody color to a sunny planting. You get dark burgundy foliage that forms an upright clump, followed by summer spikes of soft pink, tubular flowers that add height and movement. At maturity it typically reaches about 36-48 inches tall, making it a strong middle-to-back-of-border plant that pairs well with lighter greens and silvery foliage.

For best performance, plant it where it will receive full sun and provide well-drained soil. Once established, keep to an even but not soggy moisture routine; avoid overly wet sites, especially in winter. In very rich soil or exposed locations, you may want to stake taller stems to keep the display tidy.

To extend the seasonal look, you can remove spent flower spikes after bloom and lightly shape the plant. Leave healthy basal growth in place through the season, then cut back dead stems when growth resumes in spring. A light mulch helps moderate soil temperature without burying the crown.

Use Penstemon × 'Dark Towers' to create contrast in mixed beds, bring vertical emphasis to perennial borders, and provide attractive stems and flowers for cutting. Its dark foliage makes an excellent backdrop for brighter blooms and is especially effective in repeated drifts for a cohesive, modern look.
