Festuca arundinacea 'Glow Sticks', commonly sold as Tall Fescue 'Glow Sticks', turns a familiar cool-season grass into a bold ornamental accent. Upright blue-green foliage makes a tidy clump, then bright yellow flower spikes rise in spring to early summer for a glowing contrast above the blades. Expect about 24 to 36 inches of height in bloom and an 18 to 24 inch spread in a sunny or lightly shaded planting.

Use it where you want a durable grass with a clean vertical habit, strong texture, and fresh color at the start of the warm season. The yellow inflorescences are showy enough for mixed borders, meadow-style plantings, curbside beds, and massed sweeps, yet the plant stays compact enough for smaller spaces. It also makes an easy foil for purple foliage, blue flowers, coneflowers, alliums, and other sun perennials.

Plant Festuca arundinacea 'Glow Sticks' in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil. It tolerates heat and periods of drought better than many cool-season grasses once established, though regular water during the first season helps the roots settle deeply. Avoid overly rich feeding, which can make grasses lush rather than sturdy; average garden soil is usually enough for a strong clump.

Maintenance is straightforward. Cut back old foliage before new growth begins, or comb out tired blades if the plant remains evergreen in your climate. The spring-to-summer flower stems can be left for texture or removed after they fade. With its upright form, resilient roots, and unusual yellow bloom display, this ornamental tall fescue gives you an easy, low-fuss way to add brightness and structure.
