Aruncus × 'Chantilly Lace' is a compact goatsbeard that gives you a soft, airy look without the oversized scale of older types. Finely cut, fernlike foliage forms a dense mound, then sends up sprays of creamy, lacey flowers from late spring into summer. It reads as bright and textural in shade gardens, but it is also adaptable enough to handle more sun when you keep the soil from drying out.
Plant it where you can enjoy the foliage up close: along woodland paths, near a patio that gets morning sun, or in mixed borders as a mid-height filler. Give it rich, moisture-retentive soil that drains well, and water regularly during establishment. A layer of mulch helps keep roots cool and reduces swings in soil moisture. In hotter climates, aim for afternoon shade or filtered light for the best foliage quality.
At maturity it stands about 30-32 inches tall and can spread 40-48 inches, so leave room for the mound to develop. After flowering, you can trim spent plumes to keep the plant tidy while the foliage continues to provide a fine-textured contrast through the growing season.
