Place it in full sun for the best flowering, though it will also grow and bloom in part shade. Give it well-drained soil and moderate moisture; once established it can handle short dry spells better than many spring-blooming shrubs. Avoid consistently wet sites, and note that high-pH (alkaline) soils can lead to chlorosis, so a slightly acidic to neutral soil is typically preferred.

Expect a mature size around 36-48 inches tall with a similar spread (about 48-60 inches). Prune right after flowering if you need to shape the plant, since it blooms on older wood; pruning later can reduce next season's flowers. Wear gloves when working around it, as the branches can be thorny.
