Itea virginica 'Little Henry®' (Virginia Sweetspire 'Little Henry®') is a compact, native shrub that brings multi-season interest to your landscape. In late spring to early summer, it produces drooping racemes of small, fragrant white flowers that draw pollinators, followed by attractive foliage that often turns brilliant red to red-purple in fall.
Plant it in sun to shade; you will get the densest growth, best flower display, and strongest fall color with at least some direct sun each day, but it will still grow and perform in brighter shade. Mature size is about 36-48 inches tall, making it easy to tuck into borders, woodland edges, rain-garden margins, or mass plantings.
Give it consistently moist soil for fastest establishment, though it is adaptable once rooted. Water during dry spells the first season, then mulch to keep roots cool and even out soil moisture. Prune in late winter if you want to shape or encourage fresh new growth; flowering occurs on the previous season's wood, so avoid heavy pruning right before bloom.
