Add year-round structure and seasonal color with Nandina dom. 'Gulf Stream' (Compact Heavenly Bamboo 'Gulf Stream'). This compact nandina forms a dense, tidy shrub with finely textured foliage that emerges coppery, matures to blue-green, then shifts to orange-red and red tones in fall and winter for strong cold-season interest.
Place it in full sun for the brightest color, or use it in partial shade to shade where you want evergreen presence and a softer look. It grows best in well-drained soil and handles a range of soil textures; provide regular moisture during establishment, then water as needed during extended dry spells.
At maturity, it typically stays in the 2-3 ft range in height with a similar spread, making it easy to fit along walkways, near entries, in small spaces, or in mixed plantings. Use it as a low hedge, border accent, foundation planting, or a specimen in a container. Pruning is rarely required; if you do trim, do it lightly to maintain the natural rounded form.
Note: Nandina is considered poisonous if ingested. Site it thoughtfully where pets and children are unlikely to chew foliage, and handle plant debris with care during cleanup.
