Golden Ragwort (Packera aurea) is an easy native ground cover for moist gardens, woodland edges, and naturalized plantings. You get bright yellow, daisy-like flowers in spring held above a low rosette of heart-shaped basal leaves, creating early-season color when many perennials are just waking up.

Plant it in moist to wet soils for the best performance. You can grow it in full sun when moisture stays consistent, or in partial shade where the soil is average to moist. In hotter, drier spots, give it afternoon shade and supplemental water until established.

At maturity, it stays compact at about 6-8 inches tall, while flowering stems can rise higher. It spreads outward over time, filling in gaps to create a cohesive groundcover look. Use it along paths, at the front of beds, or in rain-garden style plantings where the soil is periodically wet.

Golden Ragwort supports pollinators: the blooms attract butterflies and other beneficial insects. After flowering, you can leave seedheads for seasonal interest, or tidy the plant for a neater look. Divide clumps as needed to expand your planting or to keep it within bounds.
