Bring bold, upright texture to your garden with Prairie Winds 'Brush Strokes' little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium). You will notice its bristly, vertical stems that sway with the wind and rebound, creating a crisp, architectural clump through summer. As the season progresses, the foliage and stems deepen from cool blue-green and purple tones into richer fall color, adding warm-season interest and excellent winter structure in the landscape.

For best performance, plant it where it will receive full sun and in soil that drains well. Once established, it handles drought and heat well and is a strong choice for low-water landscapes. Give the clump room to mature (about 22-26 inches wide) and avoid overfertilizing; lean to average soils help it stay upright.

Use this ornamental grass as a focal accent, in mixed borders, or massed for a meadow effect. It also provides wildlife value as a host grass for butterflies and offers cover and seed for birds and small mammals. Leave the clump standing for winter interest, then cut it back to the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
