Sempervivum 'Pacific Blue Ice' is a cold-hardy, rosette-forming succulent that brings crisp, icy blue color to rock gardens, troughs, and containers. In cooler weather the rosettes can take on rosy-pink to burgundy tones, adding seasonal contrast without extra work on your part.
At maturity, expect a low mat of tight rosettes about 3-4 inches tall and spreading roughly 6-8 inches wide as it offsets. Each ''hen'' produces small ''chicks'' that fill in around it, creating a tidy colony over time. It is an excellent choice for edging, gravel gardens, alpine beds, and sunny crevices where drainage is sharp.
Give it full sun to part shade for the best color and compact growth. In hot summer climates, a little afternoon shade can help prevent stress. Plant in gritty, fast-draining soil; avoid rich, moisture-holding mixes that stay wet. If you are planting in a pot, use a container with drainage holes and a succulent or cactus mix amended with extra grit.
Water deeply after planting, then water only when the soil has dried well. Established plants handle dry periods far better than soggy conditions. In winter, the key to survival is drainage: keep crowns from sitting in cold, wet soil. Remove spent bloom stalks after flowering, and let offsets naturally fill in or gently transplant them to start new clumps.
