Sempervivum 'Chick Charms® Chocolate Kiss™' (Hens and Chicks 'Chick Charms® Chocolate Kiss™') is a hardy, low-growing succulent prized for tight, geometric rosettes and rich, chocolate-to-burgundy tones that deepen with sun and cool weather. At maturity it stays about 2-4 inches tall and slowly widens as it produces offsets, creating tidy clusters that look great in crevices, troughs, gravel gardens, and containers.
Give it bright light for best color and strongest rosettes: full sun is ideal, with part shade helpful in very hot climates. Plant it in gritty, fast-draining soil and keep the crown above wet, heavy mixes. Water deeply, then let the soil dry between waterings; too much moisture is the fastest way to lose hens and chicks, especially in winter.
Once established, this Sempervivum is notably drought tolerant and content in lean, rocky ground. A light top-dressing of gravel helps keep leaves clean and improves drainage. If you are growing in a pot, use a cactus/succulent mix amended with extra grit and be sure the container drains freely.
After a rosette flowers, that single rosette will finish its life, but the colony continues through the surrounding offsets. Simply remove the spent rosette when it fades. With sun, sharp drainage, and modest watering, you will have a long-lasting mat of colorful rosettes year after year.
