Sempervivum 'Chick Charms® Gold Crown™' is a compact hens-and-chicks succulent that forms tight rosettes and slowly expands into a small colony of offsets. You can use it to add year-round texture to rock gardens, troughs, gravel plantings, and sunny containers where crisp form matters more than flowers.
Give your plant full sun to part shade and the sharpest drainage you can. In the ground, plant it in gritty, lean soil or in raised pockets so water never stands around the crown. In containers, use a cactus or succulent mix and a pot with drainage holes. Allow the soil to dry between waterings; occasional deep watering is better than frequent sips.
Mature size is typically about 2-4 inches tall with a spread around 4-6 inches, depending on conditions and how quickly offsets develop. Good light encourages strong color and dense growth, while shade can lead to looser rosettes. Remove spent flower stalks after bloom, and pull away dead outer leaves as needed to keep the rosettes tidy.
This cultivar is well suited to cold-winter climates and is generally hardy in USDA Zones 3-8. In winter, the key is keeping crowns dry rather than warm. If you garden in a wet winter area, improve drainage or grow it in containers you can shelter from heavy rain. Divide or replant offsets in spring or early fall when they have small roots of their own.
