This compact deciduous shrub produces small pinkish summer flowers, then loads its stems with plump, white berries that hold well into fall and often into winter for a clean, bright display.

At maturity, expect a tidy, upright-to-arching habit around 36-48" tall with a similar spread (about 36-48"). Plant it where you want long-lasting seasonal interest: mixed shrub borders, foundation plantings, massed drifts, or as a low hedge. The berry show is best when plants receive plenty of light, but it also performs well in part shade.

Give your snowberry average, well-drained to moderately moist soil. It is adaptable and not fussy about soil type once established. Water regularly during its first growing season to help roots settle in; after that, provide supplemental water during extended dry spells for best growth and fruiting. Mulch lightly to keep soil moisture more even and to reduce weed competition around the root zone.

Prune in late winter or early spring while the plant is dormant. Remove dead or crossing stems, and thin a few older canes at the base to encourage fresh, vigorous growth. Because snowberries flower on new wood, you can cut back more firmly if needed to refresh the plant. If it sends up suckers beyond the area you want, simply remove them to maintain a neat footprint.
