Abies koreana 'Ice Breaker' (Korean Fir 'Ice Breaker') is a standout dwarf Korean fir grown for its unusual, tightly curled needles that flip to show bright white undersides. The result is a crisp, frosted, silver-white look that holds through the seasons and adds structure even in winter.
Give your plant full sun to part shade. In cooler climates, full sun brings the best density and color; in warmer areas, a little afternoon shade helps reduce stress. Expect a compact, slow-growing plant that typically reaches about 36-39 inches tall at maturity with a similar spread, forming a rounded shape when young and gradually developing a small, broad pyramidal outline.
Plant in moist, well-drained soil and avoid hot, dry, exposed sites. Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment, then water during dry spells. A light layer of mulch helps conserve moisture and keeps roots cool, but keep mulch pulled back from the trunk to prevent moisture issues.
Pruning is rarely needed. Remove only dead or damaged branches and let its natural form develop. Use it as a specimen in rock gardens, foundation plantings, mixed conifer beds, and containers where its tight texture and bright undersides can be seen up close.
