Japanese Maple 'Tamukeyama' (Acer (Dissectum Group) 'Tamukeyama') brings a graceful, cascading silhouette and finely dissected foliage to your landscape. This laceleaf Japanese maple is prized for rich purple-red leaves through the growing season and a brighter red show in autumn, making it a standout focal point in beds, near patios, or as a specimen in a protected spot.

At maturity, plan on a low, mounding form about 72-96 inches tall with a spread of roughly 96-108 inches. Give it room to arch and drape naturally, or use gentle, selective pruning to keep its outline tidy and to maintain clearance over paths or nearby plantings.

For best performance, plant in organically rich, moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment and during hot, dry spells to help prevent leaf scorch. A layer of mulch helps conserve moisture and moderates soil temperatures, but keep mulch pulled back from the trunk to avoid excess moisture against the bark.

Site it in full sun to part shade; in warmer locations, afternoon shade can help preserve leaf quality and color. 'Tamukeyama' is cold-hardy in USDA Zones 5-8. Choose a sheltered location out of strong winds, and avoid low pockets where late frosts can linger. Once established, it is a long-lived ornamental that adds texture, color, and structure from spring through fall.
