Bring year-round structure and elegant movement to your landscape with Chamaecyparis nootkatensis 'Pendula'. This distinctive weeping conifer develops a narrow, pyramidal form with gently horizontal limbs and long, pendulous branchlets that create a soft, cascading silhouette. The foliage is blue-green to gray-green, offering excellent winter interest and strong contrast against broadleaf shrubs and perennials.
Give your plant enough room to show off its shape. While sizes vary with training and climate, it is often grown as a medium-to-large specimen, reaching roughly 15-20 ft tall over time (and potentially taller in ideal sites). Use it as a focal point near an entry, at the end of a view, or as a graceful accent beside water features, patios, or woodland edges.
For best performance, plant in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment and during extended dry spells. Mulch to moderate soil temperature and conserve moisture, but keep mulch a few inches away from the trunk.
Minimal pruning is needed. If you want a taller, more defined leader, you can stake and train a central stem when the plant is young; otherwise, it will naturally form a flowing, draped habit. Place it where snow loads will not force branches outward and where you can appreciate its texture up close.
