Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Soft Serve(R) Gold' (Sawara Cypress 'Soft Serve Gold') brings bright, year-round golden color with a naturally dense, pyramidal habit that looks polished without frequent pruning. You will appreciate its soft, fern-like foliage and evergreen structure through every season.

Plant it where it can shine as a specimen, near an entry, or as a repeating accent in beds and borders. It also works well for foundation plantings and informal screening when spaced with its mature width in mind. Mature size is typically 6-10 ft tall and 6-10 ft wide, so give it room to keep its clean outline.

For best performance, provide well-drained soil and consistent moisture during establishment. Once established, it handles average garden conditions well. Full sun to part shade is ideal; in hotter areas, a bit of afternoon shade can help reduce stress while still maintaining strong color.

Little pruning is needed. If you choose to shape it, do so lightly after the spring flush, and remove any dead or damaged growth at any time. Pair it with plants that complement its golden foliage and upright form for an easy, low-maintenance evergreen focal point.
