Forsythia × 'Show Off® Starlet' is a dwarf, spring-blooming forsythia that packs classic golden color into a small footprint. You get masses of bright yellow flowers on arching branches in early spring, followed by fresh green leaves for the rest of the season. At maturity it typically stays around 24-36 inches tall and about as wide, so it fits easily into foundation plantings, mixed borders, and small spaces where older forsythias would overwhelm the bed.
For best bloom, plant it in full sun to part shade. More sun generally means heavier flowering and a tighter habit, but it will still perform in partial shade. Choose average, well-drained soil, and water regularly the first season to help it establish; after that, it is adaptable to a wide range of garden conditions. A 2-3 inch layer of mulch helps even out moisture and protects the root zone, especially in colder climates.
Because forsythia blooms on old wood, timing your pruning matters. If you need to shape the plant or reduce size, prune right after flowering so you do not remove next year's flower buds. You can also remove a few of the oldest stems at the base to encourage fresh new growth and keep the shrub full from the ground up. Avoid heavy pruning in late summer, fall, or winter.
Use this variety as a low hedge, along a walkway, or as a bright spring accent among evergreens and early bulbs. It also makes excellent cut branches for indoor forcing, bringing early-season color to vases when little else is in bloom outdoors.
