Rubus × 'Bristol' is a reliable black raspberry selection grown for its flavorful, deep black berries and strong, arching canes. You will get the best fruiting and cane growth in full sun, but it will also perform in part shade where summers are hot.
Plant in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, and keep moisture steady during establishment and fruit fill. Provide room for air flow and easy picking, and consider a simple trellis or wire support to keep fruiting canes accessible. Mulch to moderate soil moisture and reduce competition, keeping mulch a few inches away from the crowns and canes.
Prune with the typical black raspberry method: after harvest, remove spent fruiting canes at the base, then head back new canes to encourage branching and manage height. Tie laterals as needed for neat growth and improved light penetration.
Expect thorns and fast seasonal growth, so place plants where you can harvest comfortably. Pick berries when fully black and they release easily; use fresh, freeze, or preserve for later enjoyment.
