Symphoricarpos doornbosii 'Pinky Promise®' is a compact, mounding snowberry grown for its fresh mint-green foliage, soft pink flowers, and especially its eye-catching pink berries that arrive in late summer and linger into fall. If you want reliable seasonal interest without a lot of fuss, this shrub brings color when many gardens are starting to fade.

Plant it in full sun to part shade. More sun generally encourages heavier fruiting and a denser habit, while a bit of afternoon shade can be helpful in hotter locations. It performs best in moist, well-drained soil, but once established it is adaptable to average garden conditions. For a neat planting, space plants to allow airflow and room for their mature width of about 2-3 feet, whether you are edging a path, filling a mixed border, or styling a patio container.

Care is simple: water regularly during the first growing season to help roots establish, then water deeply during extended dry spells. A 2-3 inch mulch layer helps even out moisture and keeps roots cooler (keep mulch a few inches away from the stems). Feed lightly in spring if your soil is very lean, but avoid excessive nitrogen that can push lots of leafy growth at the expense of berries.

Pruning is optional but useful for maintaining a compact shape and encouraging strong new shoots. Because the plant flowers on new growth, prune in late winter before growth begins, removing any weak, damaged, or crossing stems and thinning lightly as needed. Expect pink blooms in early summer followed by the signature fruit display in late summer and early fall.
