Plant it in part shade to shade in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Keep soil evenly moist, especially during the first season, and mulch to help retain moisture and moderate soil temperatures. In brighter sites, protect it from harsh afternoon sun and dry winds for the best foliage color.
