Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop' (Tall Verbena 'Lollipop') is a compact selection of tall verbena that brings a light, see-through look to borders while still delivering strong color and pollinator appeal.
In summer through frost, wiry stems hold small, clustered blooms in purple to lavender tones that butterflies and hummingbirds readily visit. You can weave it among other perennials so the flowers float above neighboring foliage without feeling heavy or crowded.
Give it full sun for the best flowering and strongest stems. Plant it in evenly moist, well-drained soil; once established it will handle occasional dry spells, and it is notably tolerant of poor soils as long as drainage is good. Mature size is about 12-24 inches tall with a 12-24 inch spread, making it a great front-to-mid border choice compared with the taller species form.
In USDA Zones 7-11 it is typically perennial, and it may reseed where conditions suit it. Leave a little room for natural seedlings if you want it to return in new spots, or deadhead to reduce self-sowing. Cut stems back at the end of the season and enjoy the long bloom period and constant pollinator activity in your garden.
