Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' (Coreopsis verticillata 'Moonbeam'): Like a buttery summer moon, the daisy-shaped flowers blossom all summer beginning in late spring on this groundcover whose 18-25" tall foliage stands alone with its wispy green, dense coverage.

Hay-scented Fern (Dennstaedtia punctilobula): People love this fern because it dramatically brightens shade gardens with vibrant chartreuse, medium sized foliage that emits the unique scent of fresh-cut hay when rubbed or crushed slightly. 2' tall.

Pennsylvania Sedge (Carex pensylvanica): From peridot green to light tan, this semi-evergreen native grass' long, narrow foliage shifts in color throughout the season. Cascading, low-growing groundcover, thrives in dry soil 6-12 " tall.

Daylily 'Orange' (Hemerocallis 'Orange'): This daylily is famous for colorful clementine-orange blossoms with a burgundy/yellow throat on 28-32" foliage. Tolerates most soil conditions. A hardy garden staple. This was introduced into this country in the 1700s. Consider whether or not you consider it "native".

Phlox 'Candy Stripe' (Phlox subulata 'Candy Stripe'): Dainty pink and white blooms blanket this low-growing evergreen carpet-like creeper in spring, painting slopes in pastel tones. Excellent in rock gardens, on banks and in flower borders. 4-6" tall.
