If you have ever seen a mass of hundreds of tiny lavender moths alighting on a plant, then you have a slight idea of the beauty of the Mazus reptans' blossoms in spring. Sometimes called Purple Creeping Leopards Tongue, in spring, she covers the bed in profuse tiny tubular lavenderblooms that dance about on the foliage like ballerinas.
General information about Mazus reptans:
With lovely
blooms
that dance like butterflies above her foliage in spring time, Mazus is a crowd pleaser for sure!
Featuring
semi-evergreen,
herbaceous,
bright green, twisty foliage with an oval shape that grows up to 2 inches in length, Mazus is prized for her adaptability.
It
creeps
to form a continuous mat that performs beautifully as a
border,
between stones
(Yes! She’ll tolerate light
foot traffic),
between pavers, or in rock gardens.
She is also perfect if
deer
are an issue as she tends to be resistant.
Because Mazus is
moderate
to
fast
spreading, and it roots as it spreads, you’ll find that in just a few growing seasons, your garden will be resplendent with her springtime dance.
Consider planting Mazus reptans over bulb flowers or lilies where she will offer shade for their root systems without interfering with their growth as well as a lovely pop of color when they aren’t blooming and she is. Pairing plants with different bloom times is a wonderful way to achieve constant color.
Easy to manage and low-maintenance, you’ll want to consider planting Mazus in mass as the more you have of these lovely plants, the more alive and vibrant your garden will be.
Mazus reptans will tolerate and benefit from an occasional light mowing on a high setting.

Never ordered from here before, I will definitely order again and have already shared with my gardening friends!
The plants I ordered arrived full and lush. I'm sure they will spread and cover the areas where they've been planted. I will likely be ordering again for other groundcovers in the near future.

Looking forward to planting my new ground cover. It snowed the day that I received my plants so I have been bringing them out of the garage during the day and putting them away for the still chilly nights. Will be planting them this weekend. I've been keeping... Read full review >
My plants were very healthy when they arrived. Shortly upon planting, they began to spread. They continue to thrive. I will definitely order from Classy Groundcovers again.
If you are more than a one-day ship away, we do not recommend shipping this plant during the heat of summer (July-August). Although our shipments are expedited (at most three days in transit), this plant tends to suffer more than average plants when shipped during hot weather (sometimes melting into mush).
You may order them, but understand that we will not replace or refund should any perish.

If using
between pavers or stepping stones, it is recommended that you plant them such that the soil level is one to one-and-a-half inches below the top of the walking surface to allow room for the plants to compress when stepped on.Mulch is recommended to protect during winter in northern zones.Mazus likes good moisture but not wet feet. If you ever get areas where some of it starts dying off, make sure the areas dying off are not staying too wet or too dry. If the area has been too wet, spray a fungicide after the area dries out. Otherwise, if the area is too dry, water a bit more after removing any dead plants. If it is not obvious what is causing some to die, the best option is to have a sample tested.
