Aster divaricata 'Eastern Star' (also sold as Eurybia divaricata 'Eastern Star') is a compact woodland aster selected for tidy growth and clouds of small, white, star-shaped daisies in late summer through fall. You will love it for brightening shady borders and woodland edges when many perennials are fading.

Give it part shade to shade and average, well-drained soil. Once established it handles drier conditions, but it will look its best with occasional deep watering during prolonged dry spells. Plant it where its airy flower sprays can weave through companions without crowding them, and allow room for its clumping, rhizomatous habit to fill in over time.

In bloom it is a strong pollinator plant, drawing bees and butterflies. Cut it back in early summer if you want a shorter, denser mound, or let it grow naturally for a relaxed woodland look. Divide in spring to refresh older clumps or to share with friends.
