If you want long-season color without a lot of fuss, Heliopsis 'Tuscan Sun' delivers. This compact false sunflower (False Sunflower 'Tuscan Sun') forms a tidy clump and tops it with bright golden-yellow, daisy-like blooms with warm orange-gold centers. You get an easy, sunny look from summer into early fall, plus sturdy stems that fit neatly into smaller beds and containers.
Plant it where it can soak up sun for best flowering: full sun is ideal, but it will also handle part shade. In lighter shade you can still expect healthy growth, though you may see fewer blooms. Place it in average garden soil that drains reasonably well. Once established, it can cope with short dry spells, but it looks best with regular moisture during extended heat and drought.
Mature size stays compact, typically about 12-20 inches tall, making it easy to tuck into mixed borders or use as a front-of-border accent. The clumping habit pairs well with ornamental grasses, salvias, coneflowers, and other sun-loving perennials. The cheerful flowers also make enjoyable cut stems for small bouquets, and the plant is a nice addition to pollinator-friendly plantings.
Care is simple. Water deeply after planting to help it establish a strong root system, then adjust watering to your site and weather. Remove spent flowers if you want the planting to look especially tidy, but the plant can continue to perform well even if you do not deadhead consistently. In most gardens it does not require staking due to its compact form.
At the end of the season, you can cut stems back after frost or leave them standing for a bit of winter texture before trimming in late winter. In spring, clear away old growth as new shoots appear. Every few years, divide crowded clumps to refresh vigor and keep the planting at its best.
