For the best performance, plant it in full sun to part shade and give it well-drained soil. More sun generally means stronger foliage color and heavier bloom. Water regularly during establishment; once rooted, it handles short dry spells better than many small shrubs, though it will look its best with occasional deep watering during hot, dry weather.

In late spring to early summer, clusters of blooms add another layer of color over the foliage. Use it in a row as a low hedge, repeat it through a border for a cohesive look, or mass it on a slope where its dense branching helps cover the ground. Pair it with perennials and grasses that like similar sun and drainage conditions.
