Strawberry 'Sparkle' is a classic garden strawberry grown for flavorful, bright red fruit and a tidy, low habit. You can grow it in a sunny bed, raised bed, or container where you can easily water, weed, and harvest. Give your plants full sun for best production; they will also tolerate partial shade, especially where summers are hot.
Plant in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with compost. Keep the soil evenly moist while plants establish and during flowering and fruiting, then water as needed so the bed does not dry out completely. A light mulch helps conserve moisture, keeps fruit cleaner, and reduces soil splashing onto berries. In colder winter areas, mulch after the ground freezes to protect crowns and reduce freeze-thaw heaving.
Expect compact plants about 6-8 inches tall with a spreading habit around 12-18 inches. Like many strawberries, it can produce runners that root and expand the planting. You can allow runners to fill in a row, or pinch/remove runners to keep plants concentrated and encourage larger berries. Good air flow helps reduce disease pressure, so avoid overcrowding and keep weeds down.
Harvest berries when fully colored and fragrant, picking frequently to keep plants producing. Refresh your patch by replacing older plants on a schedule that fits your garden, and rotate the planting site when possible to keep growth vigorous.
