Weigela florida 'Shining Sensation' is an easy, deciduous shrub that brings bold contrast to beds and borders. You get glossy, dark burgundy foliage on arching stems, plus masses of bright pink, trumpet-shaped flowers in spring with occasional repeat bloom later in the season.
Plant it where you can enjoy the color up close: along a walkway, at the front of a mixed shrub border, or as a small, flowering hedge. Mature size is about 60-72 inches tall with a spread near 36-48 inches, so give it room to arch naturally while still fitting nicely into a foundation planting.
For best flowering and strongest foliage color, provide full sun; it will also perform in part shade (expect slightly fewer blooms). Grow it in average, well-drained soil and water regularly the first season to establish a deep root system. After that, it tolerates short dry spells, but looks best with occasional deep watering during extended heat.
Prune right after the main spring bloom, removing a few of the oldest stems at the base to encourage fresh growth and more flowers next year. This shrub is also a good pick for pollinator-friendly gardens, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies when in bloom.
