A lovely addition to the garden with her grey-green foliage, Bath's Pink will put on quite a show in spring when she is covered with profuse, showy, fragrant pink blooms with elegant magenta rings.

Baths Pink is high on the list of desireable groundcovers because even when blossoms aren't out, she offers an ocean of foamy green/grey foliage that floods slopes and other empty areas with soft color. With its grassy foliage and profuse blooming time, this plant is not one to miss. Deadheading increases bloom time. Intermittent blooming in the summer is possible.

Interesting Fact
Bath's Pink is named for Jane Bath of Stone Mountain, Georgia, the lady who discovered it.

In 1994, it was the Herbaceous Perennial Georgia Gold Medal Winner.

General information about Dianthus:
If you need a tough, easy-to-grow groundcover for a dry slopes, border, rock garden, or as an edging along walkways or paths, this is the perfect plant for you. Need a classic groundcover that puts up with heat, humidity, cold and drought, and is moderately tolerant of salt? Again, Dianthus gratianopolitanus fits the bill! Not only that, but the deer tend to avoid her.

This sweet perennial’s evergreen, linear foliage with opposite leaves will bathe a bank in a pool of deep blue-grey hues when it isn’t in bloom, and when it is in bloom, its showy, profuse, often fragrant, five-petaled, frilled blooms cover the plant for an extended period. Because of its spreading tendency, planting in mass yields by far the most rewarding display making it a classic garden essential!

Take note, Dianthus needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but it tolerates some shade in the afternoon. Native mainly to Europe and Asia, Dianthus is a genus of about 300 species of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae.

Gardener Tips
Deadhead to promote continued bloom.

Consider planting close together for a quick carpet of color.

Consider planting with Lysimachia (Creeping Jenny), whose bright springy green is the perfect backdrop to the subtle hues of Dianthus’ foliage.

Interesting Facts
The name Dianthus is derived from the Greek words dios ("god") and anthos ("flower"). Its leaves are opposite, simple, and strongly glaucous, while each flower has five petals and a frilled margin.

Timely order of pinks
09/18/2024 By David Finkelstein (TN)
Product reviewed: Border Pinks 'Bath's Pink' {3 1/2 in. Pots min 25}

Recently I received 35 Bath's Pinks, in two boxes just when I ordered them. They arrived in good condition filling out each pot and have since perked up looking healthy and ready to plant. Very satisfied. Can't find volume at this price or quality elsewhere.

Arrived well packed and in good shape. Got them into the ground within 2 days and seem to be doing well so far (one week after planting). The important thing, of course, is whether they thrive and it’s too soon to tell. But based on past experience with... Read full review >
