Delosperma × 'KaleidoscopeTM 'Dancing Embers' is a low, sun-loving ice plant that brings intense orange color to hot, dry spots where many perennials struggle. You get a tight, spreading mat of succulent foliage topped with vivid reddish-orange, daisy-like flowers with lighter centers in late spring into summer. At maturity it stays just 2-4 inches tall, but it can spread to roughly 20-24 inches, making it an excellent groundcover for sunny borders, rock gardens, slopes, and between larger stones in well-drained beds.
For best performance, plant it where it will receive full sun and where water drains quickly after rain. You will have the most success in sandy or gravelly soils, or in amended beds that do not stay wet in winter. Once established, it handles heat and dry spells well, so you can use it in xeric plantings and other low-water designs. Avoid rich, constantly damp soil, which can lead to rot and poor overwintering.
Space plants about 18-24 inches apart to let them knit together into a colorful carpet. You can shear or lightly trim after the main flush of bloom to tidy the mat and encourage fresh growth. This hardy ice plant is also noted for drought tolerance and deer resistance, giving you dependable, low-maintenance color in tough, sunny sites.
