Plant Dianthus × 'Fruit Punch® Sweetie Pie' for a neat mound of blue-green foliage topped with true pink, semi-double flowers in spring and often again with a little trimming. This compact perennial stays about 8-10 inches tall, making it an easy fit at the front of borders, in rock gardens, or in containers where you want crisp texture and reliable color.
Give your plant full sun for the heaviest bloom, though it will also grow well in part shade, especially where summers are hot. Choose a site with sharp drainage; sandy or gravelly soils are often ideal. If your garden soil is heavy, plant on a slight berm or amend with grit and organic matter to improve drainage around the crown.
Water new plants regularly to help them establish, then let the soil dry slightly between waterings. Avoid soggy conditions and overhead watering late in the day. A thin layer of mulch can help keep soil moisture even, but keep mulch pulled back from the crown to reduce rot risk.
For best performance, shear the plant lightly after the main bloom to tidy the foliage and encourage fresh growth. You can also remove spent flowers as you notice them. In winter, leave the foliage in place for protection and clean it up in early spring as new growth begins.
