Use Juniperus × pfitzeriana 'Pfitzeriana Compacta' when you want a tough, compact evergreen with a broad, spreading habit and reliable year-round color. Its gray-green foliage holds well through heat and winter, and the dense branching makes it useful as a low screen, foundation planting, or an easy-care accent in mixed beds.
Give it full sun for best density and color. Plant in well-drained soil; junipers dislike consistently wet sites. Water regularly the first season to help roots establish, then let the soil dry slightly between deep waterings. Once established, it is generally drought tolerant and handles a range of typical landscape soils as long as drainage is good.
At maturity it is about 36-48 inches tall and can spread roughly 72-84 inches, so plan spacing to allow the plant to broaden without constant shearing. Pruning is optional: remove broken or wayward stems as needed, and avoid cutting back into bare, leafless wood. A light spring cleanup and a layer of mulch around (not against) the stems helps reduce stress and keeps the root zone more even.
This juniper is typically low maintenance. Keep airflow around the plant, avoid overhead watering late in the day, and monitor for occasional juniper pests or blight issues, especially during unusually wet spells. With sun, drainage, and room to spread, it becomes a dependable evergreen structure plant for many years.
