You will get a tidy, mounded plant that typically stays around 18-24 inches tall, with arching stems and narrow, glossy leaves that bring structure to smaller beds and foundation areas.

For best performance, plant it where your site offers part shade to full shade, such as under open tree canopies or along the north or east side of a building. Morning sun with afternoon shade can enhance foliage color, but avoid hot, drying exposures and strong winter winds. In colder parts of its range, a protected spot and a winter mulch can help reduce stress.

Give it the conditions it prefers: consistently moist, well-drained, acidic soil rich in organic matter. Work in leaf mold or compost at planting, and keep an even moisture level while it establishes. A light mulch helps conserve moisture and keeps roots cool, but keep mulch slightly back from the stems to prevent rot issues.
