The sassiest of all the Dianthus, Fire Witch's hot pink pops of color make her simply irresistible. Small, frilly blossoms cover blue-green, linear foliage from spring right through late summer.

Blooms are most profuse in spring, deadheading increases the bloom time. Will rebloom in the summer but not as profusely as in spring.

Sultry fragrant fuchsia blossoms fill slopes with color in season, and out of season you are rewarded with quiet rivers of blue-grey feathery foliage. This groundcover promises beauty year round making it an ideal and popular selection.

General information about Dianthus:
If you need a tough, easy-to-grow groundcover for a dry slopes, border, rock garden, or as an edging along walkways or paths, this is the perfect plant for you. Need a classic groundcover that puts up with heat, humidity, cold and drought, and is moderately tolerant of salt? Again, Dianthus gratianopolitanus fits the bill! Not only that, but the deer tend to avoid her.

This sweet perennial’s evergreen, linear foliage with opposite leaves will bathe a bank in a pool of deep blue-grey hues when it isn’t in bloom, and when it is in bloom, its showy, profuse, often fragrant, five-petaled, frilled blooms cover the plant for an extended period. Because of its spreading tendency, planting in mass yields by far the most rewarding display making it a classic garden essential!

Take note, Dianthus needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but it tolerates some shade in the afternoon. Native mainly to Europe and Asia, Dianthus is a genus of about 300 species of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae.

Gardener Tips
Deadhead to promote continued bloom.

Consider planting close together for a quick carpet of color.

Consider planting with Lysimachia (Creeping Jenny), whose bright springy green is the perfect backdrop to the subtle hues of Dianthus’ foliage.

Interesting Facts
The name Dianthus is derived from the Greek words dios ("god") and anthos ("flower"). Its leaves are opposite, simple, and strongly glaucous, while each flower has five petals and a frilled margin.

These are planted in a dry area around my mailbox. Those in full sun have done beautifully. Some had to compete with taller plants and were shaded. These did not thrive as well.

As advertised, ‘Fire Witch’ puts up with heat, humidity, cold, and drought... Read full review >

Received this quickly, during the dead of winter. Raised them in a window sill and the started flowering.
Great Plants

Product reviewed: Border Pinks 'Fire Witch' {3 1/4 in. Pots min 25}

Plants arrived in excellent condition. It took the post office longer this time than previously. Five days plus instead of three. Sad what politicians have done to our post office. Yet they were still in great shape, very carefully wrapped. They look fabulous... Read full review >
Great Quality Plants

Product reviewed: Border Pinks 'Fire Witch' {3 1/4 in. Pots min 25}

Plants arrived in excellent condition! They’ve only been planted for a week and would definitely recommend purchasing from classygroundcovers.com!

First time ordering from here - and pleasantly surprised in how mature and healthy and the size! of the plants. I frequently order "on-line" plants, but Classy Groundcovers outdid themselves with my order. Will certainly come back for more in the future!
