You get dense, mounded growth and small, glossy green leaves that hold their look through the seasons, making it an easy fit for formal borders and modern foundation lines.

Plant it in full sun to part shade for best density and color. Give it well-drained soil and avoid spots that stay soggy. When you plant, set the root ball level with the surrounding grade and water in deeply to settle soil around the roots. A light layer of mulch helps keep roots cool and evenly moist (keep mulch a few inches off the stems).

During the first growing season, water when the top couple inches of soil dry out; once established, water during extended dry spells. Clip lightly to refine its shape, or let it grow naturally into a neat mound. For the cleanest look, prune after the main flush of growth and avoid heavy cutting late in the season so new growth can harden off before winter.
