Juniperus communis 'Gnom' (Common Juniper 'Gnom') is a compact, needled evergreen that brings steady, year-round structure to your landscape. Its dense, blue-green foliage holds color through the seasons, and the naturally tidy habit makes it easy to fit into tight spaces where you still want an evergreen presence.
Place it where it will receive full sun for best density and color, though it will also handle part shade. Choose well-drained soil and avoid spots that stay soggy. Water regularly during the first growing season to help it establish a strong root system; once established, it will tolerate drier periods better than many shrubs. Mulch lightly to keep roots cool and to reduce moisture swings, keeping mulch a few inches back from the stems.
This selection is well suited for foundation beds, mixed conifer plantings, and small-scale landscapes where you want a reliable evergreen accent. Little pruning is needed; if you do shape it, clip lightly in late winter or early spring and avoid cutting back into bare old wood. In cold-winter climates it is hardy and dependable, and it can provide shelter and visual interest when much of the garden is dormant.
