Juniperus horizontalis 'Golden Carpet' (Creeping Juniper 'Golden Carpet') is a low, evergreen conifer grown for its bright, golden foliage and reliable, spreading habit. You get a dense, ground-hugging mat that adds year-round color and texture, especially in sunny sites where many groundcovers struggle.
Plant it where drainage is excellent: slopes, rock gardens, sandy or gravelly beds, and along edges where you want a tidy, durable carpet of foliage. Full sun gives the best color; in lower light it can thin and lose some of its golden tone. Set plants with room to spread, and keep the crown slightly above surrounding soil so water does not collect at the base.
Once established, this creeping juniper is notably drought tolerant and needs only occasional deep watering during extended dry spells. Avoid frequent overhead irrigation and soggy soils, which can encourage needle blights and other issues. Mulch lightly around the plant (not over the stems) to reduce soil splashing and help even out moisture swings.
Maintenance is simple: remove any winter-burned or broken tips in spring, and lightly shear stray shoots if you want a sharper outline. Use it as a low, evergreen groundcover in foundation plantings, sunny borders, and mass plantings, or to knit together hardscape edges with long-lasting color.
