Sedum × 'Night Light' (Stonecrop 'Night Light') is a late-season standout with sturdy stems, smoky green to purple-kissed foliage, and broad, dome-shaped flower clusters that brighten the garden when many perennials are winding down. In late summer, the buds open pale yellow and often develop a soft pink blush as they mature, adding warm color above the dense mound of succulent leaves.
Give your plant a sunny spot and well-drained soil for the best shape and strongest stems. Full sun produces the tightest habit, but some light shade is fine, especially where summers are hot. Like many stonecrops, it stores water in its foliage, so it prefers dry to medium moisture and does not tolerate soggy, poorly drained sites. Once established, it handles drought well and is a dependable choice for low-maintenance plantings.
At maturity, expect a bold, upright clump about 22-26 inches tall and roughly 30-36 inches wide. Use it to anchor borders, fill in rock and gravel gardens, or add structure to mixed containers. Avoid overly rich soil and heavy fertilizing, which can encourage softer growth. Leave the seed heads for winter interest, then cut stems back in late winter or early spring as new growth starts.
